Position Summary:

The Dietary Aide works as part of the food services team to provide safe and nutritious food and beverages to hospital patients. The Dietary Aide role is responsible for preparing, portioning, transporting and serving food and beverages. The Dietary Aide also stocks and replenishes items used in the provision of food and beverages to hospital patients, and maintains temperature logs for food and equipment (i.e. refrigerators, dish machine).  The three main areas that the Dietary Aide works in are Nutrition Centre, Trayline and Dishroom.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe food handling practices with HACCP standards and current valid Food Handler Certification or willingness to undertake and complete the course with proof of registration within 30 days
  • Recent food service experience in a health care setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of various therapeutic diets
  • Recent Nutrition Centre experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability handle and prioritize multiple tasks within tight time frames
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and push heavy carts
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
